Optimize Battery Life

Tips and tricks to extend your battery performance.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

• View battery usage
• Enable battery saver mode
• Turn off auto-updates for apps
• Turn off unused services
• Activate Airplane mode
• Change display settings
 
Use the original charger and battery to maintain optimal battery performance over the life of your device. The battery comes partially charged. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. 




View battery usage

1. From the home screen, select the Battery icon on the taskbar, then select Battery settings.

Note: Alternately, select the start icon Start icon > settings icon Settings icon > System > Battery tab.

2. Battery usage information will be displayed.

Note: To view battery usage by app, select See which apps are affecting your battery life.

Enable battery saver mode

From the Battery screen, select the Battery saver checkbox.

Note: Select and drag the Battery saver slider to set the battery percentage at which battery saver mode will automatically be enabled.

Turn off auto-updates for apps

1. From the home screen, select the Microsoft Store app.

2. Select the Menu icon, then select Settings.

3. Select the Update apps automatically when I'm on Wi-Fi switch to place it in the Off position.

Turn off unused services

BLUETOOTH: From the Windows Settings screen, select Devices.

Note: Select the start icon Start icon, then select the settings icon Settings icon to access Windows Settings.

Select the Bluetooth & other devices tab, then select the Bluetooth switch to place it in the Off position.

Note: Alternately, select the action center icon Action Center icon > Expand > Bluetooth to enable or disable Bluetooth.

WI-FI: From the Windows Settings screen select Network & Internet.

Select the Wi-Fi tab, then select the Wi-Fi switch to place it in the Off position.

Note: Alternately, select the action center icon Action Center icon > Expand > Network > select Wi-Fi to enable or disable Wi-Fi.

Activate Airplane mode

If you are traveling and do not have access to mobile or Wi-Fi networks, turn on Airplane mode. From the Network & Internet settings screen, select the Airplane mode tab then select the Airplane mode switch to place it in the On position.

Note: Alternately, select the action center icon Action Center icon > Expand > Airplane mode to enable or disable Airplane mode.

Change display settings

To extend battery life, set the screen to a lower brightness. From the System Settings screen, select the Display tab then select and drag the Brightness slider to the left to lower the screen brightness as desired.

Note: To access System Settings, from the Windows Settings screen select System.
