BlackBerry 7 phones have definitely put Blackberry back into the mix of high quality phones in the market to date. With a 1.2 GHz processor, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 pushes BlackBerry phones beyond anything they have ever had.
While the hardware is powerful enough to run anything the iPhone4 has, the developers of more popular games have failed to import their applications into the Blackberry operating system thus far. It doesn't mean they won't. The high quality software and hardware give the phone the capability to run it. There ARE some great games available for the BB7 phones now that we couldn't possibly play on older models.
Looking at the design of this phone, it's easy to see what drew me to it. As an artist I always look for creativity and a true display of understanding of design. The Torch 9860 is not like your common blocky/iPhone/android style form factor. This phone is ergonomically sculpted and perfectly balanced in your hands in either landscape or portrait.
The screen resolution is incredible and draws your attention to its display. A hardened plastic is what the screen is made of, thus helping keep the weight down on the phone.
Something to note is the camera. Blackberry seems to have a great understanding of how to make more out of less. The 5 MP camera is certainly smaller than most smartphone cameras these days, but the larger MP phones (other than the iPhone 4s) tend to get a very grainy picture when zoomed in. The BlackBerry cam takes amazing hd pics and stunning 720p hd video.
There are a lot of things that I can carry on about with this phone, but I'll simply state what BlackBerry users upgrading can look forward to. The operating system finally moves silky smooth. I don't want to say there isn't the loading clock of death, but I do want to tell you it rarely ever appears now since the processor has significantly been upgraded.
You can also expect to do everything you could on your old BlackBerry phones, but exponentially better and more efficiently. Emailing will be improved even more to prevent the "truncated emails" as well as grant larger file transfers. That's a huge benefit.
Last but not least, the web browser. AMEN! This has finally jumped up to hang with the iPhone and Android-based phones. Pinch to zoom works wonderfully. While there is no flash supported on it at this point, the iPhone doesn't have flash in the browser either. Android phones do have some phones supporting it, but that might not be for long.
All in all, this phone is uber responsive, artistically designed, and a true joy to use.

Old Tech

Please stop buying Blackberries. So my company will stop forcing me to have one. They are 2 to 3 years behind other smartphones. The screen is small and touch sensitivity is not very good. The phone is slow and the browser is only slightly improved over the last generation. Why do i need to reboot the phone after every app install? In this day in age if you are buying this for email try something different I'll bet you like that better too.

Not impressed at all...returning the phone
13 years ago
The first complaint is that it doesn't have a real keyboard. I didn't realize that this phone was a touch screen until it was delivered. I figured that I will eventually would have to go to a touch screen and would give it a try. There is a learning curve and the spell correct is really good...but I ,miss the keyboard. The screen is plenty big and operation is like my last Torch so no complaints there. The phone freezes all of the time and I have only been using it for 3 days. The battery is HORRIBLE. It is beyond horrible. It doesn't even last a full day and I let the battery completely drain before charging it...so much for battery memory. When you run out of battery there is NO warning that the phone will shut down...it just cuts out and you are unable to use the phone. The 4G is wonderful compared to the 3G that I had...a HUGE difference in speed when browsing on line. Because I use this phone for business, I need something with a way better battery life and something that does not feeze up so much. It is going back and I am going to look at the I Phone.
Pros4g speed is good, screen size is very good, easy to use
Consbattery life is horrible, freezes constantly, no warning that the battery is about to die
No, I do not recommend this product.

Great reliable, durable and organized Smartphone

This Blackberry Smartphone is amazing. This is my second Blackberry, my first one was the Curve and now the Torch and I will NEVER use another phone. It's easy to use, tons of features, love the touch screen and keyboard options and the alarm clock and calendar are my favorite. Very reliable. I bought this phone when it just came out and was nervous about it being new to the market, but absolutely love it. Would recommend highly if you like the options of both touch screen and keyboard and being organized.

Q: Color
The BlackBerry Torch 9860 is offered in Shadow Grey & Black yet I don't see that choice offered by AT&T. How do you order the phone in black from AT&T web site?

A: Unfortunately, we don't have the black available for order on the website at this time. Once it becomes available, you'll be able to choose it here http://bit.ly/AhQFiX and add it to your cart. Erwin, AT&T Social Media Team

Q: Transfer of apps.
I currently have a BlackBerry Torch 9800 that I have purchased some apps. I would need to transfer to the 9860. Can that be done?

A: Yes. I actually had the exact scenario having owned the 9800 previously. You can have your local AT&T rep do this for you. I found it to be pretty seemless letting them handle it. I had no problems recapturing previously purchased apps such as vlingo premium.

A: I can't speak for RIM, but the Torch 9860 is still a fairly new phone, and the BlackBerry 10 series won´t be introduced until the Fall. So, yes I´m SURE this phone will still be available in March. It is a great phone!
