Spectacular camera and very powerful phone
12 years ago
I bought this phone primarily for the camera, since that comprises the majority of what I do with any phone I have owned. The camera abilities of the 1520 have far exceeded my expectations, and I've only started exploring what it can do. Without any adjustments to the settings, you can take excellent pictures in indoor light. Learning to use the manual focus and shutter speed will open up tons of creative possibilities that you didn't know you could get from a phone camera.
The Windows Phone OS is excellent, and very stable. The usual complaints about fewer available apps still applies, but it really depends on what apps you use. The Chase Bank, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr apps are excellent. Instagram and Path, though both in Beta status, are also excellent, and about 99% feature-complete. I am a heavy Tumblr user, and their official app is still lacking, sadly. You'll find most of the big players will have an official app or a selection of third-party apps on Windows Phone. If you always want the latest and greatest, however, you will be disappointed. Most developers are slow to adopt this platform.
The phone itself is huge, so if you're wary of larger screens, definitely hold one in an AT&T store first. I personally enjoy having the extra screen real-estate. You won't be able to type one-handed on this phone. I have big hands, and even I can't pull that off. The glossy red finish version (which I have) is extremely slick, so invest in a case before you drop it!
There is no lag whatsoever when using this phone. Apps start up quickly, and transitions between screens are instant. There is plenty of power in this phone. If you opt for the 16GB model, definitely get a MicroSD expansion because the image files from the camera are huge. Popping a card in prompts the phone to ask if you wish to save all your images there, which is a very nice feature.
Drive Mode is a great feature as well, if you have a bluetooth headset or hands-free device in the car. It will automatically reply to phone calls and texts, and it will offer to read your incoming text messages for you. It's a quick setup option once your bluetooth device is connected.
My only minor complaint is that the buttons are all positioned, rather awkwardly, on the right side of the phone. Volume rockers are up top, power is in the middle, and dedicated camera is on the bottom. Since this phone is really too large to be used with one hand, it's not a big deal. Just a minor inconvenience at times.
If your primary use of your phone is taking pictures, Definitely try this phone. You won't find a better camera out there, other than possibly the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Outstanding Phablet that I can't recommend
12 years ago
Beautiful phone and industrial design. Strong. Great screen. Unbelievably great battery life. Unfortunately Microsoft has written into the coding that you can not download movies you purchased from the Microsoft store onto the SD Card, thus you are left with 16 gb for Apps, System and Movies. You can load music, videos and photographs YOU take onto the SD Card, BUT you CAN NOT down load purchased movies onto anything but the 16gb flash drive. This is NOT an AT&T or Nokia problem, this is a Microsoft problem and three months later I am still stuck with nearly a useless phablet for what I purchased it for. AT&T and Nokia have been wonderful in trying to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, I can not give the same kudos to Microsoft. I am frustrated beyond belief.

HORRIBLE
Never again will I ever purchase a Nokia or a windows phone. Hey are missing app store including snapchat and a good instagram up Morgan chased removed their app. you will feel like a caveman or woman because of the lack of support. The only good thing is the camera. If your on the fence... Turn back now! Oh yeah this is my 3rd phone because the other two had to be covered by manufacture warranty. This phone is running into software problems itself.

The size is great, camera is good, very user friendly, not as boring as the iphone, colors are great, only thing that bothers me about this phone is the video time that can be messaged, it's like less that 20 sec, battery lasts forever
Yes, I recommend this product.

I would love this phone... buuuut...
After nearly 2 years, I've decided that it's a solid phone. HUGE, yes, but the benefit of it not fitting in my back pocket means it can't get dumped into the toilet by accident, etc. (I may or may not have done that a time or two... oops.) The camera's fabulous at the start, though with 2 years of use the system has slowed down to the point that it infuriates me when I'm trying to get pictures of my 3 month old smiling. I'm a gamer, I love that it syncs with xbox and allows for some fairly awesome phone games - for both me and the kids. My toddler constantly asks to "play with the kitty cats" - Kinectimals. The downside? Non-Microsoft apps. Windows phones do not enjoy the same market share with app developers as Android and Iphone. Awesome... I get extra discounts if I use my grocery store's app... I can schedule the kids' doctors appointments on their phone app, and save me the obnoxious hold time with the office!... Ooh, I need to do a bank transfer, where's my phone?... except, they don't make those apps for my phone. My bank actually does have a windows app - that it's no longer supporting as of next month. Fabulous. Nearly the whole point of a smart phone is the apps... so while I would highly recommend the hardware of this phone, I can't recommend Windows for anyone who wants to actually be connected to the things they use/do daily.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Windows 10 & Nokia Lumina 1520 = Perfection
11 years ago
I had been wanting a Windows phone to compliment my Windows 7 PC, but I wasn't sure due to all the hype about Windows store not having any apps. With the BETA release of Windows 8 I put my Windows Phone idea on hold, Because Windows 8/8.1 is horrible.
With the release of Windows 10 Tech Preview I decided to give up my iPhone that I hated royally, and give Windows Phone a try. I am so glad I did.
I have not missed my iPhone one bit, The first day of using this I forgot all about IOS.
There are plenty of good apps in Windows Store, and the Nokia Lumina comes with a Suite of apps that will make transition very smooth.
My biggest concerns were my Navigation in IOS, and KIK messenger. I used the HERE Drive+ app, and worked flawless the first time, and has given me no issues.
KIK did not work correctly, but Skype is a much better program I use now.
The phone is huge at first, I was reluctant to get it, and the smaller newer phone, but I really wanted the better view. I got used it very quick.
Camera takes excellent photos, 20 times better then my i4S for sure.
and they look good on my 24" PC monitor.
The 1520 is quick, and very responsive, no stutter. Just smooth operation,
And it uses the very common Micro USB, I had an extra cable already.
Syncs up great with my Windows 10 64-bit Desktop apps and all.,
The Windows 7 64-bit app is a little buggy at first, but once you figure it out it's ok.
OneDrive is the best, take pics, and automatically saves them on OneDrive, you view on your phone, or Desktop PC as Drive Folder, or internet browser.
The best thing about OneDrive is, if you accidentally delete a photo, you can go to OneDrive and retrieve it when you clean up photos there. also syncs you contacts in OneDrive.
Easy callblock, Eamil setup, has all the things the others have,
There are a few apps i could not get on windows store I needed, But I just use the browser and mobile sites.
You can drap & Drop Pics, and documents back & forth from your PC.
Your Microsoft account come with a suite of tools,
Office, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, People, Calendar and more...
Drag and drop, and edit documents. (use your Phone as jump drive) only better
I could go on all day..
CONS:
Button placement is bad, Vol UP/DOWN, HOME, & Camera all on the right side,
I hit the buttons when I pick it up sometimes, you have to position fingers strategically so you dont push them. But I do not have a case yet, I' getting one of those bill fold/ credit card type cases, which will help a lot.

Q: itunes music transfer/availability?
So all the former iPhone users, how did the music transfer work out for you. Read a lot of reviews and all responders are extremely disappointed when moving to the Windows platform with regard to carrying over or accessing their previously purchased music collection. What do you have to say? Thanks in advance.

Q: Why did AT&T remove the QI wireless charging?
AT&T sold Nokia phones with QI wireless charging and sold the charging plates. Now If I want to upgrade I have to buy all new gear?
Can I buy the international version from AT&T? Will the 32GB version support QI?
2 Answers
A: qi was removed because at&t supports a competitor of QI (PMA). The only reason I could think of for at&t changing the storage from 32GB to 16GB is price point.
