What is AT&T Prepaid® international roaming, and how do I activate it?

Some AT&T Prepaid plans include roaming in Mexico and Canada. If you’re a Prepaid customer on a monthly phone plan, you can purchase an international travel add-on for roaming in other countries. With this add-on, you can use your phone while traveling in parts of Europe, the Caribbean, and Japan. To sign up, reply to the text message you’ll receive once you arrive in your destination country. You can also sign in to att.com/myprepaid or call 611 from your cell phone. Do you offer international SIM cards?

No, but with AT&T Prepaid, you don’t need a new SIM card to use your phone internationally. Keep your same number and sign up for the international travel add-on when traveling to use your phone in parts of Europe, the Caribbean, and Japan. To sign up, customers can simply reply to the text message they’ll receive upon arrival in their destination country. Or they can log in to att.com/myprepaid or call 611 from their cell phone. Yes; you can make international calls and pay by the minute or you can purchase an international calling add-on that provides you a bundle of international calling. Check out a full list of countries included in the add-ons as well as the pay per minute rates.

Our prepaid plans are a great choice for international students’ budget and needs. With an AT&T Prepaid plan no credit check is required and some prepaid phone plans let you pay one month at a time. What are the pay-per-use rates for sending international text and picture or video messages from the U.S.?

Most plans (except per-minute plans) include international messaging. If you’re on per-minute plans, you’ll be charged pay-per-use rates for messages you send to international numbers. See the list of over 230 countries

Can I use the International Travel Add-On with my prepaid phone and plan?

You can add a Travel Add-On to any monthly prepaid plan. A VoLTE (Voice over LTE) device is required. Most smartphone devices purchased in the last few years are compatible. Check the device manufacturer’s website to confirm if your device is VoLTE.

Why don’t I see the Travel Add-On option when I log into att.com/myprepaid?

If you don't see the International Travel Add-On listed in your available Add-Ons, you may need to upgrade to a newer device and/or switch to a monthly plan.

How can I purchase my International Travel Add-On?

Accepted Answer

When you turn your phone on at your destination, we will automatically send you a text message. You can reply to that message to purchase the add-on at that time. You can also go to att.com/myprepaid (Wi-Fi required).
Once you purchase the add-on, you can use it for 7 days. Therefore, we recommend that you wait until you arrive at your travel destination before you purchase it. You can make a payment at that time, but having enough balance prior to travel may make things a bit easier.

I'm traveling outside the U.S. What countries can I call with the International Travel Add-On?

If you're in an eligible country, you can call and text within that country as well as with any other country included in the International Travel Add-On. The add-on also includes calling and text back to the U.S. (including Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa).

Do I need to buy an additional International Travel Add-On for each country that I visit?

Accepted Answer

No. Once you purchase the add-on, you can use the service when you travel to any of the included countries during that 7 day period.

What happens if I travel to a country that is not covered by the International Travel Add-On?

Accepted Answer

Your cell phone service will not work in countries outside of the International Travel Add-On coverage list. However, you may still be able to use Wi-Fi. Prepaid customers can also use service in Mexico and Canada, and charges are based on the rate plan.

Dial *777*# and press the call button to receive a text message with your remaining data balance. You can also log into att.com/myprepaid to check your balances.
