Use your own phone or tablet with AT&T PREPAID

Want to bring your own device to AT&T PREPAID? Find out how to activate an unlocked, compatible phone or tablet.


Confirm device compatibility

First, make sure your device works on the AT&T network. It has to be compatible with one of these GSM network frequencies:
  • 3G WCDMA; UMTS; HSDPA; HSPA+ network: 850; 1900MHz Bands 2 and 5 (minimum requirement for nationwide service)
  • 4G LTE network: 700; 850; 1900; 1700; 2100; 2300MHz Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17, 29, 30, 40, and 66

Check device status

  • Make sure your device isn’t reported lost, stolen, or involved with fraud at
  • Confirm that your device is unlocked so we can activate it on our network. If you have a dual SIM device, unlock the device first. Check out your current carrier’s or device manufacturer’s website to unlock your device.

Gather info to begin the transfer

When you order a SIM card online, you can find out if you can transfer your current number to AT&T PREPAID. If you want to transfer the number, have the below info handy at checkout:
  • Account owner name and address
  • Account owner's Social Security number or Tax ID
  • Existing account number
  • PIN or password, if applicable
