How to Stop Your Phone from Overheating

We all want to get outside, take pictures and enjoy the good weather, but sometimes the heat can be too much for our phones to handle. Overheating can be hard on phones in a number of ways, including doing serious battery damage. To help avoid these issues, here are a few tips to prevent your phone from overheating.

1. Consider a glare screen. On a hot summer day, it can be hard to see your phone through the glare. You might be tempted to turn up the brightness. This will only make your phone heat up more quickly, however. Instead, consider buying a glare screen to improve visibility in the sun.

2. Turn off apps you don’t need. Your phone will generally overheat for two reasons: heat from its own processor and heat from the sun. If getting out of the sun isn’t an option, the next best thing is to give your processor a break. One way to do this is to turn off any apps you might not need. Games in particular tend to take a heavy toll, and so do apps that use location services.

3. Take a break from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Another thing that will help give your phone a break is disconnecting from other devices. For example, connecting to Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi can all make your phone run hot. If you have been running your Bluetooth speaker from your phone for too long, it might be time to disconnect and let it cool down.

4. Keep your phone someplace cool. One of the fastest ways to overheat your phone is to leave it out in the sun, but it can also overheat if it’s insolated in an enclosed space. Don’t leave you phone on top of other devices, stuck in a bag or covered in fabric. Keep it somewhere shaded and cool where it also has room to breathe.

5. Turn off your phone for a while. These are all good options, but the absolute best way to let your phone cool down is to turn it off for a while. If your phone isn’t running, it will cool down much faster. We all love our phones, but nobody needs to be connected 24 hours a day.
