iPhone Duo FAQs:
What is the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone. It has a 5.4-inch outer display (used when the phone is closed, similar in size to a standard iPhone) and a 7.6-inch inner display that unfolds for use as a larger canvas. When open, the inner screen is approximately 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display.
How much does the iPhone Duo cost?
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB. Storage tiers:
256GB: $1,999
512GB: $2,199
1TB: $2,599
2TB: $3,199
Through Apple Upgrade leasing, the entry model starts at approximately $57.99 per month for 24 months.
Does the iPhone Duo have two screens?
Yes. The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display used when the phone is closed, and a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display that opens for multitasking, reading, streaming, or creative use. Both displays are OLED, support ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On, and reach 3,000 nits outdoors. The inner display has a nano-texture matte finish.
Does the iPhone Duo have Face ID?
No. The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID, built into the side button. The iPhone's form factor when folded does not allow space for the Face ID sensor array. iPhone Duo users with a paired Apple Watch can also unlock the phone using the watch when it is on their wrist.
What cameras does the iPhone Duo have?
The iPhone Duo has two rear cameras:
Main (48MP Fusion): Includes a built-in 2x optical-quality Telephoto
Ultra Wide (48MP Fusion): 13mm, f/2.2
It does not have a dedicated telephoto lens with extended optical zoom like the iPhone 18 Pro models. The Duo offers digital zoom up to 10x, while the iPhone 18 Pro models offer digital zoom up to 40x. The iPhone Duo has two front cameras: a 12MP Center Stage camera (ƒ/2.2) on the outer housing for use when the phone is closed, and a separate under-display FaceTime camera (ƒ/1.8) on the inner screen for hands-free video calls when the phone is open. The iPhone Duo does not support ProRes or ProRes RAW video. It records in HEVC and H.264 only. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max support ProRes.
Why does the iPhone Duo not have a telephoto lens?
The foldable design prioritizes the hinge mechanism and dual-display engineering, leaving less internal space for a full three-camera array. Apple incorporated a 2x optical-quality zoom into the main 48MP sensor as a partial substitute, but the iPhone Duo does not offer the 8x optical zoom available on the Pro models.
How long does the iPhone Duo battery last?
Battery life varies by which display is in use:
Outer (5.4") display: up to 44 hours of video playback
Inner (7.6") display: up to 31 hours of video playback
Mixed use: up to 24 hours
The Duo charges to 50% in approximately 20 minutes wired (with a 60W adapter) or 30 minutes wirelessly.
Is the iPhone Duo eSIM-only?
Yes. The iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide, with no physical SIM card slot in any country. This design choice saves internal space for the hinge and battery components.
What chip does the iPhone Duo use?
The same A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The Duo adds a custom vapor chamber to manage heat across the foldable body. Apple states the A20 Pro in the Duo delivers up to 20% faster CPU performance compared with the A19 Pro.
Is the iPhone Duo durable? What is its water resistance rating?
The iPhone Duo is rated IP68 for splash, water, and dust resistance, the same standard as the iPhone 18 Pro models. The body is Grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish. The outer dimensions are 5.2mm thick when open and 11.3mm when closed, weighing 254 grams.
Does the iPhone Duo support Apple Pencil?
Yes, but not at launch. Apple Pencil (USB-C) support for both displays arrives via a software update later in 2026 for use on the inner display.
When is the iPhone Duo available?
Pre-orders open at 5:00 a.m. PT on October 16, 2026. The phone goes on sale October 23, 2026, in the US and more than 70 countries, with a second wave of markets following October 30. This is approximately five weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max (available September 18, 2026).
What colors does the iPhone Duo come in?
Star White and Night Sky, both in Grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish.
What iOS version does the iPhone Duo run?
The iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max launch with iOS 27.
Should I buy the iPhone Duo or wait?
The iPhone Duo is for people who genuinely want a phone-sized device that opens into a tablet-like display, and who plan to use the inner screen regularly for Split View multitasking, streaming, reading, or creative work. The tradeoffs relative to the Pro models are: no Face ID, no telephoto lens, a $700 higher starting price, and a later availability date. If those tradeoffs are acceptable for a device you will use as a portable tablet, the Duo is a meaningful new product category for Apple. If you primarily use your iPhone as a phone and camera, the 18 Pro or Pro Max delivers more in those areas for less money.
Which iPhone 18 model has the largest screen?
The iPhone Duo, when unfolded, has the largest display at 7.6 inches. Among traditional non-folding iPhones, the iPhone 18 Pro Max has the largest screen at 6.9 inches.
