Best "Rugged" MILSPEC Phone I've Owned
As someone who leads an active lifestyle, I've happily gone with phones that sacrifice performance for durability. Over the years I've had the Kyocera Duraforce, and the Duraforce Pro and Pro 2. I've taken them mountain biking and to countless crossfit days at the gym. The Galaxy Active was always too expensive for me. Two defected phones
The phone would not work. It would not connect to the sim. They sent two new phones and neither would work.

Best "Rugged" MILSPEC Phone I've Owned

As someone who leads an active lifestyle, I've happily gone with phones that sacrifice performance for durability. Over the years I've had the Kyocera Duraforce, and the Duraforce Pro and Pro 2. I've taken them mountain biking and to countless crossfit days at the gym. The Galaxy Active was always too expensive for me. But since this XCover Pro is more at an attainable price it was an easy choice for me. Out of the box, the resolution and processor performance clearly leave the Duraforce Pro 2 in the dust despite having similar specs. So, very happy with that. Picture and video quality are superb. And while image quality in attachments to text messages might be a given for most people, it isn't for the Duraforce series. So, that was a very welcome upgrade. Battery life seems very good so far. I also stream lossless music files with Tidal over the 4G and this phone accomplishes that without breaking a sweat. And overall the phone feels very rugged and durable. I feel very confident taking it on an adventure. So, while this might not be the supercomputer that other phones these days might be by comparison, it's plenty fast and useful for my lifestyle. The Kyocera Duraforce is a great phone and I don't mean to knock that product line in any way. It served me well in conditions I think most other phones would not survive. But Samsung raised the bar for rugged smart phones with the Xcover Pro by offering better performance with comparable quality and at an attainable price point.

Not nearly as good as the S8 Active.

I have had a Samsung Galaxy S8 Active for years and it was by far the most durable phone I ever had. I had been putting off an upgrade because I couldn't find any new phones that were as water/drop resistant as the S8A.
Recently the glue holding the back cover of my S8A on started failing, so when I saw the specs for the Xcover Pro, I was excited that Samsung had finally released a new smartphone that had the same IP68 and MIL-STD-810G ratings that I was looking for.
When I received the phone however I was disappointed in how flimsy it feels in comparison to my old phone. It remains to be seen how durable it actually is, but it does not feel like it would survive a drop onto concrete with no damage like my previous phone.
Like my previous phone though, the Xcover Pro does have the awful Samsung Keyboard by default. After finding that my new phone does not read or use common emojis by default, I had to download a third party keyboard because I was unable to find a way to make the Samsung Keyboard do it.
When I transferred the data from my old phone to the new one, I found all my old text messages, but most of my contacts did not make it in the transfer, so instead of names almost all of my text messages just show phone numbers.
The xcover also has much of the same Samsung branded bloatware pre-installed including a number of features enabled by default that I want nothing to do with, such as Bixby.(does anyone even use that??)
The xcover does have an SD card slot that is under the battery with the SIM card slot, which is better than most of their new phone which have no SD card slot at all, but only by a small margin.
I plan to continue using the Xcover in the hopes that it lives up to the advertised IP68 and MIL-STD-810G ratings, but only because I also have phone insurance for if/when it fails to survive being dropped and I get told that physical damage is not covered by their warranty.
In summary, if you have an S8 Active that is still working or can get your hands on one for a reasonable price, don't get the xcover.

I'm done with Samsung 3rd phone after a year they start the black screen,drives me nuts why cant they fix that, every time the phone starts this trash, my phone is just about paid off ,how Ironic.

This is a terrible phone. Touch screen is so sensitive it clicks on everything, all the time. Screen broke within 4 months, not even sure how. Don't care to fix. Going to replace. Look elsewhere.

The phone is great, exactly what I was looking for. The availability is why I switched to ATT but the customer service is why I will stay. The reps were very helpful in authenticating and activating my purchase (though I'm still waiting for my first phone bill!). Very satisfied.

Q: Is there a Samsung charge cradle for this phone? All of the pages tout the pogo-pin charge, but no cradle, and no detail on what voltage is expected on those connections.
