LG Bootloop
After nine months of use, my phone suffered from the dreaded LG bootloop. Look it up. LG knows and keeps selling the phone. Blantant planned obsolescence!

Excellent Phone

LG sent me a L4 trial phone, It's a great phone. Once I got used to the volume and power controls being on the back, I wouldn't have it any other way. The 5.5" QHD 2560 x 1440 pixels display is excellent and the colors outstanding. The volume is crisp and clear. The front 8MP camera with selfie light and rear 16MP camera with laser auto focus is amazing, the best cameras on a phone I have ever used, The Hexacore Processor is super fast. The battery on my G4 seems to drain rather quickly but I use the web browser a lot, and the battery is removable so I could just pop in a new battery.
The removable battery and SD card gives this phone a distinct advantage over the competition.

Great camera and features, lacking screen

I pre-ordered my LG G4 and have been using it for almost 2 weeks now. It has a lot of great things going for it -- like a fantastic camera, fast speed, and a solid build.
I love the 5.5 inch screen size. I really like the screen double-tap to turn the phone on and off. It works great as a phone. Bluetooth functionality is good. Speakers are solid.
Camera has some awesome features, like using verbal commands to take a picture, using hand gestures for delayed selfies. Dual selfie / regular photo mode is fantastic too! LG has clearly put a lot of thought in this product!
Battery life is pretty good. And the best aspect is that it is replaceable!
So why only 3 stars? The screen viewing angles are terrible! While the screen looks vibrant and crisp when you look directly at it while holding it in your hand, it looks dim and dark even at a slight angle. It is really frustrating if you try reading an article with your phone sitting at your desk - say while you having a cup of coffee. This is the case even at the highest brightness setting. It doesn't make a difference if you are viewing content with white or dark background. I have shown this to several coworkers and everyone agreed.
A related issue is that the screen is not bright enough to take pictures or view photos in a sunny day. I am not even talking about trying to read an email or a text.
The screen deficiency is especially apparent if you are moving to this phone from a Samsung or Apple device. I went to this phone from LG Flex and Note 4. Returning it and getting Galaxy S6 Edge.
To summarize, LG G4 is a great phone with a great camera and features, but with a lacking screen.

Shouldn't have to do factory reset every week

I first got the LG G4 a year ago after being an avid turned anti iPhone user. The AT&T rep highly recommended it and everything I read and compared made it the greatest phone for me, especially for the price. For the first month I absolutely loved everything about it. Then it showed it's true self. Regular photos were great until they fully loaded and then were pretty pixelated. I could actually see the photo go from beautiful quality to pixelated, block by block. The zoom feature was always horrible. They were so pixelated I could barely tell what I took a picture of. This was really disappointing because a huge selling point of this phone was the photo quality.
The biggest problem was emergency mode. Even with full service and paid bill, the phone would get stuck in emergency. The only thing that would get it out was turning airplane mode on and off. After a while that didn't work so I would reboot the phone. Then I had to reseat the SIM card. After having to reboot every day, and reseat the SIM at least once a week I finally did a factory reset. I ended up doing that every couple of weeks. I even stopped putting the case back on it because it was just getting annoying having to remove it daily. I finally got sick of all that and less than a year of having it I got a replacement LG G4.
SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED! Instead of waiting 10 months like before, I dealt with it for a month then was told to get a new SIM (which I asked about with the last phone and was told "not yet") I had the new SIM for less than a week and then spent 3 days with the phone in emergency, even after reboots, network reset, and re-registering the device on the network twice. Had I done a factory reset I probably would have gotten out of emergency but I was so sick of doing that I just contacted tech support (for the 3rd time in less than a year for the same issue). They told me my current device was still within the 90 day warranty so would send me another device. I requested anything but and LG and thankfully they agreed.
LG devices I've had in the past have been great so I'm really disappointed in the G4 and wish I could've given it a good review. This was horrible enough that it ruined LG for me completely.

If you are going to use the LG G4 on an AT&T GoPhone/pre-paid account, it will not require to have a data plan or messaging plan. Now, if the LG G4 is going to be used on an AT&T postpaid account it will require to have a data plan, and messaging would be an option, based on your current plans and features.
