The weirdest phone on the market
This is the weirdest phone on the market. I love it. You can sort of multi-task and have two browsers open at once which is really nice for copying or looking up information while also posting or filling out something. I use the "tent mode" a lot more than I thought I would as well. It's nice to be able to browse the internet while I watch a video or text without stopping my video. This is a fun gimmick but really it is Not like having a 7 inch phone. Almost nothing actually spans across the twoSee more

Not ready.. Not even close
first. Microsoft knows this phone is not ready. Att had reviews disabled for this device until today (a month after release). I received it from att on sept 11th. The device is made well, but thats where it stops. It's SOOOO buggy, crashes all the time, screen flip does not work, screens pixelate randomly, the camera does not work. if you make a phone call with it, the phone calls sound terrible (not with bluetooth). I contacted microsoft directly for help 5 times during the first week. TSee more

This is a GAME CHANGER for me!!! GREAT product

This pocket pc is GREAT for Multitasking! Note, Microsoft doesn't consider this as a "Smartphone". This is a smart device that is made for work.
First off, this Smart Device is SEXY!!! I mean when you first hold it in your hands when it is closed, is something special! I've heard some people say that they should have an external display. I would tell Microsoft to DON'T DO THIS!!!! I LOVE the sleek design, and not seeing a screen when it is closed. It is better this way and something different, and If you need to, Just fold the device around and leave it in single screen mode. But I LOVE how clean this device is. And the Bumper is really good and fits the design, and it has already saved me a couple of times when my phone slipped out my pocket while working on cars.
Now a lot of people talk about the camera quality. This will take pretty good pictures. Of coarse it isn't the best, but it does the job, and it isn't horrible as many would make it sound. I have taken pictures and video chatted with it with no problem, and even had people say it looks clean as my last phone, which was a Note9. The thing I love about it too is NO CAMERA BUMP!!!! I don't mind this, and flipping it around to take a pic isn't as bad as it sounds. I had the LED cover on my Note9 so I guess that prepared me for this device.
The Speaker, also something people complain about, again, isn't as bad as people says. It is a slim device, and yes it does have a single speaker above the left display, it is clear and is not that much worst than my Note9. If i really want quality, I put on my Sony Headphones, or in the car I connect it to Android Auto.
The Dual displays is a GAMECHANGER. I've never felt too good about snapping apps on my Note9 (and I've on the Note8 too). It just didn't feel natural. The Surface Duo COMPLETELY feels natural doing this. Like my two monitors on my computer, this really allows me to get a lot done and do some extreme multitasking on the device. This is probably the Duo's greatest strength. To be able to snap Outlook to take up both screens, list on one and email on the other, just like my PC is JUST want I wanted. I can be chatting in WhatsApp and Textra without having to switch the app. Put in on the screen and just tap. I also run a YouTube Channel and I use OneNote and can either have it take both screens, or put it on one screen and have the web browser on the other to put in info I will use for my show. or you can turn the Duo vertical, and using Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome is FANTASTIC like this. A lot more screen real estate than the other Smartphones using it this way. If you use Nook or Kindle it is great and makes more sense swiping pages as this is more shaped like a small book (you do have to tell both apps to go into two columns mode first). There is no replacement for this. AT ALL!
I also use the gestures a lot. You can go back to the normal "Android" way of doing things and having the three virtual buttons, but I suggest if you get this device, force yourself to use the gestures. It makes way more sense on this device than it does the Note series and such.
The different modes is great too. Tent mode for video. Dual Landscape mode for apps. Single screen mode. Laptop mode. I've used them all. It gives you so much more creative freedom than you will think.
Answering the phone is pretty simple. You can use peek mode too for calls, but I got my smartwatch (Galaxy Watch2) for this as well. I do like the ring sounds Microsoft made. It's different, and people always ask what phone I have, then I pull this out and shock them.
I thought I would miss using the Facial recognition like Windows Hello on my Surface, once you zone in on your fingerprint reader, it never fails, and is much more stable than the fingerprint reader on the Note9.
And the battery life. Probably one of the things you wouldn't think that will be that great. I haven't killed this thing yet, even when I forgot to charge it one night. I haven't got this under 46% yet. Sometimes when you do some heavy multitasking it does get warm, but when you close the app, it cools off pretty quickly! Microsoft has done a fantastic job at battery management of this device, and it is better than my Surface Pro 4 have ever been.
Now there is some negatives, but not that bad in my opinion. Some of the software is a little buggy, but that is to be expected since Android isn't naturally made for a dual screen device. Sometime the icons don't spread back out because I found certain apps may think that it is still on a screen. You can close it and they should go back to normal. Sometimes too, it may freeze for a little, but hit the power button to lock it, then unlock it, and all should be back to normal. Now Microsoft have released an update two days before this review, and it seems to fix a lot of those issues, and the one with messenger where if you do a peek and it stays across two screens. It will now appear on one screen and only span when you want it too.
While it charges pretty fast, I would love to see 35W charging on this device. I think the dual battery design works real well with the charging and I can see this thing charging even faster thru the USB-C port.
No NFC and No Wireless Charging! Now, NFC payments I can get thru the watch, so that isn't a big loss, but I would LOVE for Microsoft to design a wireless qi Duo with a equally sexy wireless charger to match. I'm sure Microsoft can come with something special with this. I would really hope for this for the Duo 2!
It would be nice to have some other cases for this too. I haven't seen one I liked and the bumper may be the best way to go for now, and I know this isn't really a Microsoft thing since phone manufactures don't typically make their own cases.
And it would be nice to bring Microsoft Pay to the Duo for things. Maybe make a Surface Smart Watch?
And I would LOVE for Microsoft to look into adding UWB into the phones, especially considering the smartkey tech that is coming out for Cars and smarthomes. Again, maybe a smartwatch for this feature?
I haven't tried Inking yet as I've lost my Surface Pen, but will try it this week. It know the pen can stick to the Surface Duo, and I can tell this is not intended, so maybe a way to attach and charge the Surface Pen to the Duo. It would be nice to have something like Apple MagSafe too on the device.
All in All, this have been a fantastic Device, a pleasure to own and use. I decided to be a "beta tester" for this device over getting the Note20 Ultra which I decided against getting as I wasn't impressed. Now this device isn't for everyone, but If you are a multitasker, a Surface aficionado, or someone that loves something unique and different, I would say take a chance on the Microsoft Surface Duo. You won't be disappointed!

They said "they had no idea when they would fix it" so like most other people I returned is as I did not want to wait 14 days to find out, they cant fix it and then I would not be able to return it. In looking online, it looks like on oct 6th microsoft (after what must be countless returned phones) decided to push an update.. not sure if it fixed anything. The simple truth is that this phone was due out at xmas. For some unknown reason they released it months early and not working. (thats why all the review phones were not allowed to even be turned on until the pre orders shipped). Maybe one day this device will be good, but for now they are asking you to but what is essentially the most expensive phone on the market, to have the honor of being their beta tester. WAY TO GO MS you blew it big time on this one.
