Turning on Next-Gen Messaging
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is an upgraded messaging standard that enables features like read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality media sharing, and improved group chats over your network.
1.
From the Messages app, tap the Profile icon.
Next-Gen Messaging requires Android 5.1 Lollipop or higher, Android Messages version 4.3 or higher, and a connection to a wireless monthly plan with data or a Wi-Fi network on a compatible device.

Tap Mesages settings.

Tap RCS chats.
4.
Tap or slide the Turn on RCS chats switch to ON.
