The phone runs iOS 27 at launch.

What camera system does the iPhone 18 Pro have?
The iPhone 18 Pro has a three-camera system:

Main (48MP Pro Fusion): Variable aperture, the headlining new feature
Ultra Wide (48MP): 13mm, f/2.2, 120-degree field of view
Telephoto (48MP): 8x optical zoom, up to 40x digital zoom

The front camera is 18MP with Center Stage. Video supports 4K Dolby Vision up to 120fps, and Cinematic mode effects can now be applied after capture.

What chip is inside the iPhone 18 Pro?
The A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process. It includes a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple states the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro with up to 50% more memory bandwidth.

What is variable aperture on the iPhone 18 Pro?
Variable aperture means the camera’s main lens can physically widen or narrow its opening, similar to how a DSLR controls exposure. Every iPhone before the 18 Pro used a fixed aperture, relying only on shutter speed and ISO to manage light. A wider aperture lets in more light and blurs backgrounds more strongly. A narrower aperture keeps more of the scene in sharp focus. The iPhone 18 Pro controls this automatically, but Pro controls allow manual adjustment.

Does the iPhone 18 Pro have Face ID?
Yes. The iPhone 18 Pro uses Face ID for authentication, the same as previous Pro models.

How fast does the iPhone 18 Pro charge?

The iPhone 18 Pro charges to 50% in approximately 15 minutes with a 60W USB-C adapter. Wireless (MagSafe) charging reaches 50% in about 30 minutes.

Should I upgrade from iPhone 17 Pro to iPhone 18 Pro?

The meaningful upgrade reasons are the variable aperture camera, the A20 Pro chip with its stronger Neural Engine for on-device AI, the vapor chamber, and a battery improvement. If you shoot a lot of photos or use Apple Intelligence features heavily, the gap is noticeable. If you primarily use your phone for calls, messaging, and streaming, the differences will be less apparent. iPhone 17 Pro owners on a two-year cycle who held off last year will see a more significant jump.
