What are the overall benefits of fiber internet?

Fiber internet has several key advantages.

  1. Faster download and upload speeds available: Fiber internet offers much faster speeds than you'd get with DSL or cable, making it the best choice available on the market today for speed and quality.

  2. Equal download and upload speeds: Unlike traditional broadband services, which often have faster download speeds than upload speeds, fiber internet is known for having nearly equal rates for upload and download speeds. Why is this important? Most people understand why fast download speeds are important. But fast upload speeds are just as critical if you’re transferring large files to email, social media—and even if you’re live streaming video calls on meeting apps like Zoom or Google Meet™. Having balanced download and upload speeds can make a huge difference in your overall internet experience.

  3. Reliable and consistent connection: Even a service with fast maximum speeds can be a letdown if it lacks reliability. Fiber internet, however is known for delivering consistently fast speeds, regardless of peak usage times. Speeds are based on a wired connection.  Learn more frequently asked questions about the benefits of fiber internet

How fast is fiber internet?

Fiber internet stands out due to its impressive speed, making it the top choice for fast internet. The speed you get with fiber internet depends on the plan and the provider you choose. Speeds generally start at 250 megabits per second (Mbps) and can go up to 1,000Mbps, or 1 gigabit per second (Gbps or GIG), for both uploading and downloading data. Some providers, like AT&T, offer even faster options, with speeds reaching up to 2Gbps or 5Gbps (that's 2,000 or 5,000Mbps!).*

When you compare fiber to other types of internet, like DSL, fiber is much faster. DSL internet speeds can be as low as 1Mbps and reach only as high as 100Mbps. Another advantage of fiber is that it provides symmetrical speeds, which means your upload speeds are just as quick as your download speeds. This feature of fiber internet is perfect for bandwidth-heavy activities such as streaming videos in high definition, playing online games, uploading large files, or using several devices simultaneously.

How can I test my current internet speed?

Before choosing a new internet plan, it's a good idea to find out your existing internet speed. This will help you understand your starting point and determine how much faster you want your new connection. You can measure your current internet speed by using a mobile (cellular) network, a wired connection, or your Wi-Fi® network.

Check my internet speed using SPEEDTEST®

How much is AT&T Fiber® internet?

AT&T Fiber internet pricing depends on the speed you choose. Fiber speeds range from 300Mbps all the way up to 5 Gigabits per second (5Gbps or 5 GIG)—that's 2,000 or 5,000Mbps!

Good coverage
Internet speed and signal have been good. I was concerned that the signal wouldn’t cover the entire house, but so far the intallation at the front in the garage is working well.

Internet VERY good. AT8T VERY bad!
Internet very good. AT&T VERY bad. Love the internet and was very pleased with the installation technician. However, they tag-teamed with a mobile phone representative at the house too. She made statements to entice me to switch my family’s phone service by making statements and promises that were not true. When I showed AT&T the offers and promises that were made they could care less.

The set up was a breeze. The connection is so far good. There was a follow-up call from AT&T personnel checking about the connectivity. I would definitely recommend this internet service.

How to cancel Xfinity internet service

So, you’re ready to switch from Xfinity internet service to AT&T Fiber internet service. Good call! To get the best deal, be sure to remember a couple of tips:

  1. Choose your AT&T Fiber internet plan.

  2. To cancel your Xfinity internet service, schedule a callback from Xfinity customer service so you don’t have to wait on hold and waste your time.

To cancel your service, you’ll have two options—cancel immediately or schedule your cancellation for a future date. To avoid interruptions to your internet service, we recommend waiting to have AT&T Fiber internet installed and then canceling your Xfinity to avoid any service interruptions.

  3. Remember, if you have a contract with Xfinity, AT&T will pay off your cancellation fee in full if you’re eligible. Upload your final bill from your previous provider, and AT&T will reimburse you for the cancellation fee.

If you qualify for the switcher offer, you’ll get a reward notification email within six weeks after you’ve activated AT&T Fiber internet and maintained your service. To ensure you’re reimbursed for Xfinity’s Early Termination Fee amount, follow the instructions in the email you’ll receive from us to upload a copy of your Xfinity’s last bill showing the amount paid. After 3 - 4 weeks, you’ll receive a reward card in the mail for the Early Termination Fee amount.
