Getting started

  • You can download the update via Google Over the Air (GOTA).
  • You must connect your device to Wi-Fi to download the update.
  • Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to a PC or using a favorite application, prior to upgrading the software.
  • Google will use a slow roll GOTA campaign that starts with .4% of the eligible users on day one and ramps up availability to 100% by the end of the sixth day.
  • If you check for the update via settings before their device is eligible for the rolling GOTA campaign, you will see the message that indicates the device software is currently up to date. You can’t pull the update via Settings.
  • Once eligible and in Wi-Fi coverage, the download will take place automatically and you will then be prompted to install the update.

Update & verify software

To update the software
When you receive notification that the software update is available:
  1. Make sure your device is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. Select Install.

To verify the software update
  1. Swipe down from the Notification bar with two fingers and tap the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll to the System section, then select About phone.
  3. The device has the latest software if the Android version, Baseband version, Build number, and Software version match the current update details.
